Top 5 Weekend Zen Activities in Singapore

The question that we probably spend whole day Friday thinking about - any plan for the weekend?

While it may be tempting to either stay in for the weekend watching Netflix, or party with friends, why not spend your weekend doing something Zen to destress from work and the urban crowds?

After all, emotional wellbeing is not only about things that are exciting, it also comes from the peaceful moments when we smell the grass after a summer rain, come across some inspiring paragraphs from a new book, or make a hand-crafted piece of art.

We have rounded up the top 5 Zen activities that can help you unplug for part of your weekend and recharge your mind.

1. Hang out with the fuzzies at pet cafe

As it turns out, hanging out with dog or cat for just 12 minutes can help with lowering anxiety, blood pressure and heart rate.

The fundamental act of petting and caring for an animal reduces stress when our thoughts gravitate from our own issues to understanding the needs of the furry one. If you don’t have a pet, check out these pet cafes where you can spend quality time petting friendly cats and dogs.

2. Soak in a library

If your impression of a library is a place filled with old carpets, boring shelves and muted white-grey color walls, then you would be very surprised by the new public libraries in town that have undergone a radical change in design.

These 3 libraries we recommend have everything you can dream of – Zen design that incorporates modern woody elements, more than 100,000 books and magazines of your choice, as well as quiet reading spaces with ample sunshine.

3. Wander down a reservoir trail

One of the best ways to mediate is to take a walk outside, somewhere that has fresh air and greeneries, to experience nature at its finest. During the week we mostly stay indoor working in a cold air-conditioned office and hardly get time for the beauty of nature. Taking time to explore nature outdoors is therapeutic and a sure way to de-stress both physically and mentally.
